Telcos find common ground on ITR

India's older telcos  Airtel , Vodafone and Idea, who have waged an acrimonious battle over local interconnect rates (IUC) against new entrant  Reliance Jio , have found common ground with their bitter rival on the international settlement rates with both sides agreeing backing an increase. The warring parties, in the midst of a brutal tariff war, are backing the increase of international termination rate ( ITR ) for calls coming into India from overseas, to Re 1 from present level of 53 paise a minute, saying that existing rates are very low for India when compared to global markets. "In our submission, which was supported by all our members, including Relian ce Jio,  COAI  has asked for an increase from the present ITR," said Rajan Mathews, director general of Cellular Operators Association of India, which represents leading carriers in the country. Take measures to fix cyber security gaps: Irdai to insurers

Regulator  Irdai  has asked insurers to take immediate steps to identify and fix security gaps in information and computer infrastructure with a view to safeguard data and financial system from any vulnerability. The  Insurance  Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) had guidelines on information and cyber security for insurers in April this year. It, however, said that from the feedback/ updates received from insurers, "it is observed" that many of them still have not finalised their gap analysis report,  cyber crisis management plan  and board approved information and cyber security policy. Insurers have also been asked to firm up their Cyber Crisis Management Plan (CCMP) for handling cyber incidents more effectively. In a circular addressed to all insurers, the regulator said that ensuring that Information and  Computer Technology  ( ICT ) infrastructure of insurers are fully secured is of paramount importance.  Chinese  smartphone  maker  Oppo  is all set to launch its latest flagship smartphone in India. The company has started sending out media invites for the launch event on November 2, where it will unveil the  Oppo F5 . Just like  OnePlus , Oppo is also skipping the number 4 and is launch F5 after F3. The company has not mentioned any reason for the same, but 4 is considered as an unlucky number in China so that can be reason behind this. indian oil-to-telecoms conglomerate  Reliance Industries Ltd  posted a 7.3% rise in its second-quarter standalone net profit, buoyed by higher margins from its core refining and petrochemical businesses. Its telecoms arm Jio Infocomm Ltd, which upended the telecoms industry with its free calls and cheaper data plans, posted a loss of Rs 2.71 billion. Profit on a standalone basis, which includes refining, petrochemicals and oil and gas exploration businesses, rose to Rs 82.65 billion ($1.27 billion) in the quarter ended Sept. 30, its highest ever. But that was below analysts' average estimate of Rs 88.05 billion, Thomson Reuters data showed. Refining, petrochemicals and oil and gas exploration businesses, which account for over 90% of the company's overall revenue and profit, delivered an 11.5% rise in quarterly revenue from operations to Rs 717.61 billion. Toshiba, Bain executives join to push for memory-chips sale The heads of  Toshiba 's memory chip business and  Bain Capital , the investment fund buying it, said Friday they hope to close the deal by March despite persisting opposition from Toshiba's U.S. joint venture partner Western Digital. Appearing with Toshiba Memory Chief Yasuo Naruke, Bain Japan chief Yuji Sugimoto said his consortium is giving full support to the plan. Toshiba Memory and Bain gave a media tour Friday of a flash-memory chip manufacturing plant in this central Japanese industrial town to highlight the chip unit's technological prowess and business potential. Tokyo-based  Toshiba Corp ., suffering massive losses from its nuclear business, sorely needs the sale to survive. Its U.S. nuclear operations at Westinghouse Electric Co. filed for  bankruptcy  earlier this year. Toshiba spun off the memory business in July for the sale. In April, this year Chinese  smartphone  maker  Xiaomi  launched its flagship smartphone Mi 6 with 6GB RAM. Now, it seems that the company is planning to introduce a 4GB RAM variant of the smartphone. A 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant of the smartphone is spotted on certification website TENAA. All the other specifications are the same, just the RAM and storage of the phone has changed. It is also speculated that the company will launch the 4GB RAM variant on November 11 at an event in China.
